Day 5
Today is one of the most memorable days our journey. We will visit a real life hunter with golden eagles. Salbuurun is an ancient craft of the nomads. The hunter ventures out into the mountains on horses with trained golden eagles and taigans (Kyrgyz hunting greyhounds).

In Almazbek’s house we will get to know this craft and how hunters live now and tame birds. We'll spend half a day here and, believe me, you won’t want to leave.

Almazbek's wife will feed us the most delicious manta (dumplings with meat) rays throughout Kyrgyzstan, and the owner will play to us on komuz during the lunch. Then we go to the Skazka (Fairytale) canyon - the most popular canyon in the country.

In the evening we will visit the master who creates the traditional Kyrgyz yurt and you can even assemble it yourself. You'll be surprised how easy this process is - after all, every detail in the yurt everything is thought out. This day is the most eventful in the program!

Possible locations for plein air:
  • Hunter's house with golden eagles and taigans
Day 5
Day 6
A day of minimal travelling. After breakfast we'll stop by the souvenir shop. Then we go to the Kok Zhayik gorge – one of the most picturesque gorges of Issyk-Kul.

Here we will take a horseback ride to the waterfall Maiden braids, and for lunch a real Uyghur lagman (noodles) awaits us. It is very tasty!

Closer to sunset we will go up to the observation deck Jeti Oguz gorge site. Here you can rest and make a sketch.

Possible locations for plein air:
  • Kok Zhaik gorge with snowy peaks and Tien Shan firs
  • Jeti Oguz rocks
Day 6
Day 7
Karakol is an international city within Kyrgyzstan. Many nationalities live here. One of the most charismatic are the Dungans. These are the Chinese professing Islam. In the 19th century there were 8 waves of migration to the territory of Kyrgyzstan. To this day about 100,000 Dungans live here.

First we will visit the Dungan mosque build in 1910 . It is made in a pagoda style without a single nail. A spectacle of colours and sophisticated carvings made this object one of the most visited in the city of Karakol, and at the same time it is a working mosque.

In the afternoon we will go to a Dungan house where a traditional dungan lunch will be waiting for us: ashlyanfu - cold soup, hogo - noodles with vegetables and meat, tomomo - shortcrust pastry buns with nuts and dates.

Here we will learn a lot about the history and culture of the people.

Possible locations for plein air:
  • Dungan mosque
